What is CanTRA Certification The Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association administers an internationally recognized instructor certification program. We train instructors to teach in therapeutic riding centres across the country and offer four levels of certification - Assistant instructor, Intermediate Instructor, Instructor and CanTRA Coach. A CTRAI is a therapeutic riding instructor who is certified to teach one student at a time, giving safe and enjoyable riding instruction to children and adults with disabilities. The CTRAI works under the direction of CanTRA Intermediate Instructor, Instructor or CanTRA Coach and assists with the preparation of the class and training of volunteers. CanTRA has implemented a "tuition" type system for all levels of certification so it is easier to track candidates and to plan technical evaluations and examinations. This system also makes it easier for you to budget for the costs of certification and you have specific timelines to submit information. The other advantage is that we'll have a better sense of how people are progressing and can help make sure a candidate is "ready" to take a technical or exam before they are scheduled in. To Complete CTRAI certification, our assumption is that it takes the average candidate two years to complete the process. The total cost is $805.00, which would be invoiced quarterly over two years ($100.63 each time). This tuition includes your CanTRA Membership for two years, your Instructor Manual, CTRAI Home Study and Home Study Review, your CTRAI Technical Evaluation and related costs, your CTRAI exam and related costs, your CTRAI certificate and Badge. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age. During your certification period, you must meet the following requirements (time lines are counted from date of registration):
Click here to download the Lesson Plan form. This is a guideline and we can speed the process up or slow it down on an individual basis - our goal is to help you be successful! Contact CanTRA or check our centre map and list for a full list of member centres in your area. During the process, if you're having trouble finding someone to give you feedback, mentor you, etc., you can contact the CanTRA office and we'll connect you with someone who can help you. If you are in a remote area, we can also use strategies such as videotaping, so an expert in another part of the country can "watch you" and provide you with feedback and advice. To register, simply complete a Certification Registration Form and submit it to the CanTRA office. Forms can also be obtained by contacting the CanTRA office at (519) 767-0700 or by e-mail at ctra@golden.net. Once you are registered, we will send you your instructor manual and Home Study and you're on your way! |
