CTRII Certification Information

What is CanTRA Certification?

The Canadian Thereapeutic Riding Association administers an internationally recognized instructor certification program. We train instructors to teach in therapeutic riding centres across the country and offer four levels of certification -
Assistant Instructor, Intermediate Instructor, Instructor and CanTRA Coach.

What is a CTRII

A CTRII is a therapeutic riding instructor who is certified to teach up to four students at a time, giving safe and enjoable riding instruction to children and adults with disabilities.

The CTRII works under the direction of a CanTRA Instructor or CanTRA Coach and takes an active role in the preparation of the classes and training of volunteers.

What will it cost?

There are two ways to achieve your CTRII certification. You can achieve your CTRAI certification first or you can work directly toward your CTRII certification.

If you already have CTRAI certification, our assumption is that it takes the average candidate one year to complete the process. The total cost is $335.00, invoiced quarterly over one year. This tuition includes your CanTRA Membership for one year, your CTRII Exam and related costs, your CTRII Certificate and Badge.

If you do not already have CTRAI certification, our assumption is that it takes the average candidate two years to complete the process. The total cost is $920.00, which would be invoiced quarterly over two years. This tuition includes your CanTRA Membership for two years, your Instructor Manual, Home Study and Home Study review, Technical Ecaluation and related costs, CTRII Exam and related costs, your CTRII Certificate and Badge.

During the process, if you're having trouble finding someone to give you feedback, mentor you, etc., you can contact the CanTRA office and we'll connect you with someone who can help you.

If you are in a remote area, we can also use strategies such as videotaping, so an expert in another part of the country can "watch you" and provide you with feedback and advice

How do I get started?

To register, simply complete a Certification Registration Form and submit it to the CanTRA office. Forms can also be obtained by contacting the CanTRA office at (519) 767-0700 or by e-mail at ctra@golden.net.
