In May, 2009 CanTRA's first bilingual conference "Liaison Cheval" ("Horse Connection") took place in Sorel-Tracy along the banks of the St. Lawrence River at the Auberge de la Rive Hotel. Experts from a diversity of fields and countries offered seminars and practical sessions on Autism, Saddle Fitting, Hippotherapy, Teaching and Coaching Techniques, Equine Nutrition, Specialized Tack and more. Using simultaneous translation for all sessions, this fully bilingual conference was declared a huge success. Our speakers were: Dr. Jeanette Holden (Ontario) - Keynote Speaker The Bridge Between Professor of Autism Research at Queen’s University, Dr. Holden is on the cutting edge of Autism research and spoke on the many reasons we have to celebrate progress in this field. The Bridge Between Handouts Anita Shkedi (Israel) - Equine Therapy: An Appropriate Treatment for Autism and Equine Therapy, A Focused Therapy in the ring. Anita focussed on working in the ring with children with autism in both her presentation and her practical session in the ring. Anita is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder and has presented at FRDI conferences. Equine Therapy: An Appropriate Treatment for Autism Handouts Christian Lowe (Ontario) - Saddle Fitting Christian is known throughout Canada for his expertise in making and fitting saddles to the horse to ensure the ongoing health and safety of the animal and the rider. Recommended book: The Horse's Pain-Free Back and Saddle Fitting Book by Dr. Joyce Harmon Saddle Fitting Handouts Pippa Hodge - P.T. (British Columbia) - Fitting the Saddle to the Rider with a Disability and Helping the Rider Become More Balanced As a pediatric physiotherapist and a found member of the American Hippotherapy Association, Pippa is a driving force behind this movement in Canada. She has over 25 years of practical experience in the therapeutic benefits of horses.
