This conference will offer valuable tools to provide excellence in a challenging field. We have an outstanding team of conference speakers who are experts in equine health and management and professionals in the fields of Physiotherapy, Hippotherapy, Speech-Language Disorders, Music Therapy and more. Speakers will include: Kara Grant, Prince Edward Island, Canada - Kara, our Keynote speaker at the conference, is a two-time Olympic Modern Pentathlete. Born and raised in Stratford, PEI, Kara has been involved in PEI’s equestrian scene for many years and through her riding and early training with the Charlottetown Pony Club she became involved in Pentathlon. Kara has taken part in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and won a Bronze medal at the World Cup in 2008 – the first ever won by a Canadian Pentathlete. Kara continues to represent PEI and Canada nationally and internationally in the Modern Pentathlete as well as speaking of her experiences to a variety of organizations for over 10 years. For more information on Kara Grant visit her website: www.karagrant.net Pippa Hodge, P.T. of British Columbia, Canada – Pippa is a paediatric physiotherapist and is a founding member of the American Hippotherapy Association. She is a driving force behind this movement in Canada. Pippa has almost 30 years of practical experience in the therapeutic benefits of horses. Jane James of British Columbia, Canada – Jane is President of the British Columbia Therapeutic Riding Association (BCTRA), is a CanTRA Coach and Examiner and has been involved with para-equestrian sports for many years. Jane’s session will focus on para-equestrian activities and involving riders at the grass-roots level. Christian Lowe of Ontario, Canada – Christian is known throughout Canada for his expertise in making and fitting saddles to ensure excellent care of the horse’s back and the ongoing health and safety of the animal and the rider. Michele Moffat of Prince Edward Island, Canada – Michele works with the PEI Department of Health as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She has worked from coast to coast with a wide variety of individuals with speech and language difficulties and with their families. Michele is from New Brunswick, loves horseback riding and enjoys visiting her family in Northern Alberta on their cattle ranch. Peter Mutch of Prince Edward Island, Canada – After finishing his education in Music Therapy at Acadia University Peter moved back to Prince Edward Island where he opened his private practice working with children, adults and seniors with a wide range of needs. By using various techniques and activities music therapy can become an essential part of a program in memory stimulation, relaxation and for stimulation. This is very relevant to the use of music with clients as they experience equine therapy. Art Ortenburger, DVM of Prince Edward Island, Canada – Dr. Ortenburger holds an MS in Equine Surgery; and is Associate Professor of Surgery, Dept. of Health Management, Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown. He will speak on Integrative Medicine. His specialties are equine soft tissue surgery, clinical pain management, and veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic care. Sue Ross of Nova Scotia, Canada – Sue is a Certified Equine Massage Therapist who has experience with CanTRA’s therapeutic riding program in Halifax. She will offer both lecture and practical sessions. Gisela Rhodes of Maine, USA – Gisela represents the Federation for Riding for the Disabled International and is the Executive Director. |
