Conseil D'Administration : Officiers

The purpose of CanTRA’s Board of Directors is move the organization toward its goals in a well-planned, efficient and co-operative manner. The Board collectively sets policies and procedures for the accreditation and certification programs, works to promote CanTRA to the public, sets parameters for the operations of the charity and acts as a court of appeal. CanTRA’s Board is composed of experienced and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for therapeutic riding and service to people with disabilities.


Eliane Trempe, présidente

Eliane est la représentante du Québec auprès de l’ACET et joue un rôle important dans la diffusion d’informations sur l’équitation thérapeutique à la population francophone du Québec au nom de l’ACET et par son implication avec la Fédération Québécoise d’Équitation Thérapeutique. Elle a fait des études en psychologie, est présentement conseillère auprès d’élèves adultes et a travaillé avec des enfants pendant une quinzaine d’années. Eliane s’adonne à la randonnée équestre et à la photographie. Eliane est certifiée instructeure adjointe ACET et prépare actuellement son examen d’instructeure ACET.

Ann was a founding member of CanTRA and is currently Executive Director of Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre. This dual role helps her voice the concerns of CanTRA member centres to the Board. Ann comes from a nursing background, has over 35 year of experience in the field of therapeutic riding, and represented Canada in the first International Paralympic Equestrain Committee. She also enjoys gardening, interior design, spending time with her grandchildren, and volunteering in her local community.

Dr. Dorrit de Demeter, Secrétaire

Dorrit has been extensively involved with horses for more than 40 years. She has been involved in competitive riding for over 30 years, both as a rider (where she won the Intermediate Dressage Zone Championships with her Grand Prix dressage horse Rigoletto) and as a dressage judge on the national and international level. She is also a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery, and has served with CanTRA in various roles for over 14 years.

Kevin joined the CanTRA Board of Directors in September of 2006. He left a background in biochemistry and medical supply sales to pursue his current career as an independent investment and insurance broker. Kevin is a dedicated family man and is active in the Guelph community as a minor league hockey Entraîneur, Rotary Club membership Chaise, and assistant director for the local branch of Business Network International. Kevin’s financial expertise and role as Treasurer is a welcome addition to our Board’s skills.

Dr. Bob Wright
Ontario

Dr. Bob Wright is a national and international speaker on horses, deer and their management. He has owned and ridden horses for more than 40 years. He is employed by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as the Lead Veterinarian, Disease Prevention for Equine and Alternative Livestock. He is actively involved in; disease outbreak-investigations, research into ergot alkaloid toxicity in mares and developing educational materials for veterinarians and horse owners. On a monthly basis, Bob creates the Horse News and Views column, which is published in many horse magazines and newsletters. He has authored more than 300 snippets for Horse News and Views, 90+ infosheets/factsheets and journal articles on horse care and management. Bob likes to develop practical solutions to day-to-day problems and provide those to practitioners and horse owners. He grew up in Clandeboye, Ontario and graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. He was in a mixed animal practice in Kapuskasing for nine years. He and his wife Arlene, live on a farm near Fergus with their three children and horses.

Donna brings over twenty years of business experience to her role as Executive Director. In 2001 she transitioned from a successful full-time career in management with organizations that support people with disabilities, and started her own business as a certified reflexologist. She became Executive Director for CanTRA in December, 2004 and currently balances her role at CanTRA with her reflexology practice. Donna works 28 hours/week on average, though her hours do vary from week to week depending on the projects at hand.

Louise is an essential part of CanTRA's staff, handling many of the day-to-day duties involved in running a national organization. She joined CanTRA as Administrative Assistant in May 2006. With over twenty years of administrative and secretarial experience, working in both Canada and England, Louise now lives with her husband and two daughters in Guelph. Louise is in the middle of a long distance writing course. Her other hobbies include photography, cross-stitch and researching her family historyl. Louise works a 23-hour week at the CanTRA office.
