Part-time Therapeutic Riding Instructor
Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Association, Edmonton, AB


Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Association in Edmonton, Alberta has several opening for part-time therapeutic riding instructors starting in April 2011. Candidates must be certified by Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) or willing to become certified as soon as possible.

In an effort to attract and retain qualified instructors, Little Bits may provide financial assistance to instructors wishing to upgrade their CanTRA certification or to riding instructors willing to obtain CanTRA certification.

Requirements would include:
• Minimum CanTRA Assistant Instructor (CTRAI) certification
• Current First Aid certificate
• Interest in teaching riders with disabilities
• Ability to work well with other staff and volunteers
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work with riders to set individual goals

Internship Opportunities
Sunrise Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre, Puslinch (near Guelph), ON

Sunrise Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, provides internship opportunities as part of their year-round therapeutic riding program for children and adults with special needs. The intern will work towards instructor certification through the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA).

Through full-participation in all aspects of the Sunrise program, interns gain knowledge in therapeutic riding, horse care, and stable management. Working as part of the Sunrise team five days per week, interns live in the century stone farmhouse on the Sunrise property free-of-charge.

Sunrise’s interns are trained by Nicola Thibodeau, CanTRA Coach & Examiner, and, on a daily basis, Krista Breen, Sunrise Head Instructor, CTRI, EC Instructor. All of Sunrise’s instructors are certified therapeutic riding instructors through CanTRA and interns will have the opportunity to work with, and learn from, these instructors. The level of certification that will be achieved by the intern is dependent on the intern’s background and length of stay at Sunrise.

I CAN-T.E.R.'s programs include a variety of participants with and without disabilities. The ideal applicant will be CanTRA certified (CTRAI or higher) or be willing to pursue certification with CanTRA or Equine Canada.
