Come back soon for more details.

Auction Rules and Information

CanTRA's annual Stallion Service Auction offers donated stallion services to the public in an auction, with proceeds being donated to CanTRA. Photos and information for available stallions are posted on this page, along with an automated online form for the submission and display of bids. Bidding will begin at 12noon ET on January 14th, 2009 and end on January 28th, 2009, 12noon ET. At this same time, for any stallion who has received multiple bids, all bidders will be invited to participate in a bidding war until only one bidder remains. Shortly after any bidding wars are finished, all bids will be assessed and the top bidders notified. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the CanTRA office using the contact information at the top of this page.

CanTRA would like to thank all the stallion owners for their generosity during the 2008 auction, which raised over $4000 for therapeutic riding in Canada.

CanTRA's Stallion Service Auction
Terms & Conditions

The following terms and conditions shall govern the auction.

  1. The stallion owner will provide the following details to CanTRA to post online for the bidder’s review:
    a) Stallion lineage
    b) Photograph
    c) Accomplishments (optional)
    d) Any special requirements for bids to be accepted e.g. purebreds only.
    e) Statement of what additional fees are/are not included in the stud fee: any board, vet fees, handling fees, etc.
    f) Statement of what types of breeding services are available: live cover/A.I only, frozen, cooled or chilled semen etc.
    g)Statement of any foal guarantees.
h)Supply CanTRA with a sample stallion service contract for your stallion that lists your terms – if one is available.
    i) It is the Stallion owners responsibility to check their stallions details on the CanTRA website before the auction begins to verify that the details are correct.
  2. The minimum bid on a stallion shall be half the regular stud fee, which will be shown in Canadian dollars.
  3. Minimum bidding increments will be $50.
  4. Bidding begins at NOON (EST) January 14 2009 and closes NOON (EST) January 28 2009. Bids will be accepted by mail, (CanTRA, 5420 Hwy. 6 North, Suite 11, R.R. #5, Guelph, Ontario N1H 6J2), fax (519 767 0435) and online at the CanTRA website. www.cantra.ca
  5. The website will update automatically when bids are submitted online, or be updated manually at regular intervals in the case of offline or email bids.
  6. For offline or email bids, the date and time that the donation form was filled out will serve as the time stamp for the bid.
  7. The stallion owner and winning mare owner will be informed of the winning bid when the auction closes. An 'End of Bidding' rule will be applied at the close of auction: those stallions who have only received one bid (so long as it is above the starting bid) will be sold to that bidder. However, if a stallion has received more than one bid during the live auction, then at auction close those bidders will all be notified and invited to participate in a bidding war until only one person is left bidding. This will be conducted by email.
  8. Payment of winning bids must be received no later than February 27 2009 or the bid will be considered void and default to the next highest bid. If only one bid is received on a stallion the winner is obligated to purchase the bid.
  9. Stallion owners will be informed when payment on their stallion has been received in full. They will not breed the winning mare or ship semen until CanTRA has notified them to this effect.
  10. Money collected by CanTRA for breedings sold through the auction will be used at the discretion of the officers, for continued service improvement to the membership or other uses that would benefit the membership.
  11. The breeding must be initiated in the current breeding season, unless prior arrangement is made with the stallion owner. Winning bids may not be banked for future years breeding.
  12. The winning bidder agrees to pay to the stallion owner all other expenses associated with breeding the mare, such as booking fees, per day mare care, shipped semen and/or any associated reproductive and veterinary expenses etc. If there are any questions regarding these fees, it is the responsibility of the bidder to contact the stallion owner/agent prior to placing a bid.
  13. The winning bidder agrees to abide by the terms of the stallion owners contract for that stallion.
  14. The winning bidder agrees and acknowledges that he/she fully realizes that there is a possible danger of injury or death in the breeding of horses and the attendant care of the mare. The winning bidder voluntarily assumes all risks of accident, injury or death to said mare and specifically releases CanTRA, it’s officers, employees, and agents from all liability for any and all injury or disability suffered by or sickness or death of the mare or foal from any cause whatsoever, and specifically waives any and all claims resulting from such injury, disability, illness or death.
  15. The winning bidder specifically acknowledges and understands that CanTRA makes no warranties either expressed, implied or by any other means of interpretation in connection with this agreement. IT IS EXPRESSLY UNDERSTOOD BY THE WINNING BIDDER THAT CANTRA IS ACTING AS NOTHING MORE THAN A SELLING AGENT OF THE STALLION SERVICE, AND THE STALLION OWNER IN TURN HAS AGREED TO DONATE THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE STALLION SERVICE FEE TO CANTRA AS A FUNDRAISER.
  16. The winning bidder will be obligated to CanTRA for the amount of the winning bid whether or not the mare owner uses the bid.
  17. This stallion service auction is run as a fundraiser for CanTRA, which is a registered charity. As such CanTRA will NOT provide a refund to the mare owner under any circumstances.

    NO PRANKSTERS PLEASE!

CanTRA's Stallion Service Auction
Benefits
Benefits for the Stallion owner
For the stallion owners, the advantages are free advertising on the CanTRA Website. A list of donors and their stallions will be printed in Horse & Country and other horse magazines as acknowledgements of their generous support for CanTRA. Stallion owners will also receive a charitable receipt for the amount of the regular stud fee. Each year information on stallions donated will be available to the public through events and publications, (i.e. The Royal Winter Fair, The Canadian Horse Journal).

Benefits for the Mare owner
For the mare owners, the advantages are the support of a charitable national equestrian organisation and the possibility of a bargain stud fee. The cost of mare care, vet expenses and the shipping of semen are, as in all breeding contracts, the responsibility of the mare owner.

Benefits for CanTRA
Your participation will help to support CanTRA and therapeutic riding across Canada. The Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association is the National Sports Organisation for therapeutic riding for riders with a disability in Canada. “CanTRA” is a non-profit organisation providing support to individuals and groups through education, certification, insurance coverage, communication and accreditation. The Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association, a registered charity, was founded in 1980. Committed to promoting challenge and achievement for young people and adults with disabilities through the use of the horse, the organisation has grown to almost 100 member riding centres across Canada.
