Guelph, Ontario, Canada provides internship opportunities as part of their year-round therapeutic riding program for children and adults with special needs. The intern will work towards instructor certification through the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association.
Through full-participation in all aspects of the Sunrise program, interns gain knowledge in therapeutic riding, horse care, and stable management. Working as part of the Sunrise team five day per week, interns live in the century stone farmhouse on the Sunrise property free-of-charge. This is an unpaid position.
Sunrise interns are trained by Nicola Harman, CanTRA Coach & Examiner, and on a daily basis, Nikki Duffield, Sunrise Head Instructor, CTRI, EC Instructor. All of Sunrises's instructors are certified therapeutic riding instructors through CanTRA in interns will have the opportunity to work with, and learn from these instructors. The level of certification that will be achieved by the intern is dependent on the intern's background, length of stay at Sunrise and ability to prepare for the examination.
